Christmas Giveaways competition over, but....
Date: December 17, 2007, posted by joni
We have chosen the winners and sent them private messages. If you didn't win, don't worry.
Although the Christmas Giveaway competition is over, you can still see our prizes and read through some of the blogs that inspired them.
First up, Berlin's (and the world's) favourite bear, Knut, came to represent climate change with his sheer cuteness (or should that be knutness?) and highlighted the threat posed to his habitat by global warming. Read the blog from Von Ross here. Images of Knut were soon signed and copyrighted, and a myriad of cheesy songs were composed, but nothing was as cute as the real thing. The Knut toys were quickly bought up, but we have one to give away!

Prize: An Inconvenient Truth DVD
During our Green Architecture Special which coincided with the WIRED LivingHome we presented a range of sustainable building practises and architect interviews. One was an interview with Travis Price by Joni Taylor. Price also has a wonderful new book out which you can win. It is sure to be a great Christmas read.

But as we also examined in our features on Eco-houses, houses don't need to be high-tech. There are some simple techniques anyone can implement in the building of their homes. That's why we are giving away a copy of this super little book about small eco houses!

Prize:Book: Small Eco Houses by Simone Schleifer
WIRED magazine was a partner in presenting the sustainable LivingHomes, designed by the renowned Ray Kappe and built in LA and covered by Anke Herder in a photo-special. WIRED magazine is a favourite here, and each month it brings you the latest, from techno-wiredness to cutting edge scientific breakthroughs. We are giving away a whole years subscription!

Prize: I year WIRED magazine subscription.
Here at Club of Pioneers we attended many of the large auto shows of 2007 and presented the most advanced developments in car designs. We were at the IAA in Frankfurt, where we showed you videos of The Loremo and the Mercedes Blutec hybrid amongst others. Last month Jörg Frommann was at the LA Motor show and brought us videos of The Green car of the 2008 and The Lohner Porsche . But if you missed out on the car shows, don't worry. We are giving away Richard Dredge's book “ Concept Cars: designing the future” with 190 colour photographs and illustrations. “It is a discovery of the fantastic, the extraordinary, and just plain outlandish creations of the automotive industry. “

decision is final. Prizes are not transferable or
refundable.

Cute Knut the new symbol against climate change
Date: March 27, 2007, posted by Alexander Goerlach
A small polar bear - Knut - catches much of the publics attention in the last days. The cute, small bear has become the symbol for fighting global warming and the melting arctic.
Bears are Berlin’s city mascot, but according to Sigmar Gabriel, the German environment minister, Knut, the cute polar bear, he hopes will help more people “become active in working against climate change.” Knut, according to zoo Driector Bernhard Blaszkiewicz, is now “Berlin’s ambassador to the international climate change debate.” A big role for a small bear. And there are more things to come: Knut is going to be the mascot of next years protection of species conference held in Bonn. The ministry of environment now offered to pay the costs of Knut’s feed for the next year.
Bear Knut and his twin brother were born in December and afterwards abandoned by their mother. His brother unfortunately died because of the cold, Knut was found alive and raised by a man. Knut's story is known all over the planet already - when he was presented to the public last week for the first time camera crews from all over the world gathered to get him filmed for their TV programs back home.
