Video: Last stop Calcutta! The solartaxi visits a sun park.

Date: December 04, 2007, posted by Erik Schmitt

In the last episode from our solartaxi tour, we get to see how innovative and forward thinking the Indians and their Governments are about their future. We meet Dr Gon Chaudhiri, the Secretary for Power in the Government of West Bengal. We also go on a tour of the “Journey to the Sun” park, where children (and adults) are able to learn about solar power, bio-fuels and renewable energy. I will be in Bali next with the solar taxi, so stay tuned.

Watch the last leg of our adventure.

Video: Solartaxi makes its way to Calcutta, part 2

Date: November 30, 2007, posted by Erik Schmitt

Varanasi is the holiest of cities for the Hindus. Whoever dies here instantly receives the much longed-for salvation. This is why one finds many funeral pyres along the banks of the Ganges. For many Hindus bathing in this holy river is a highly spiritual experience, and people come to Varanasi from throughout India.

It was not easy to get the solartaxi into the Truck as you can see in episode 5. We had to build a self-made ramp out of gardendoors and beams that we found around. Thomas drove backwards, Louis drove forwards, but nothing would help to get the Solartaxi into the truck!
Then one of the Indians had a super idea to raise the steel door with the car on top. Later we laughed about it and praised this “Indian technology”.

Watch the second part of our Solartaxi trip.
