Eco-To-Go

Currently, almost a 1/3 of the waste produced in America comes from packaging.

Eco Agents, a nonprofit organization created to defend and protect the Amazon Rainforest has coined a new term to do just that; Eco-To-Go. They are encouraging people to request less packaging when they order take out, and have started contacting take-out services, delis, restaurant owners and employees; informing them about the new phrase.

The way it works is, when you call in and request your order, say you want it Eco-To-Go, the restaurant will then only give you one napkin and leave out any plastic utensils. Because really, when was the last time you brought back food to your place and used the cheap plastic utensils?

And, if you're picking up the food yourself, we say take it one step further and use your own bag.

Great idea. Such a simple thing that people can do to make that
bit of difference. Though I would've thought that it's something
that people aleady do. I know that I always ask for the minimum
in packaging when getting take-out.

YES! This is the way to go! If you ever had a Reese's sweet
choclate thingie you know what American packing and useless wrap
up means... Another idea would be for Starbuck's everywhere
(they already do it in Germany) to always use real mugs (not
plastic) for people who drink their coffee inside the coffee
house and don't take it to go!
