BMW Group kicks off road test with electric MINI!

Date: July 09, 2008

Number ONE is the strategy, MINI delivers the cars, and the alternative engines will be powered 100 percent by battery electrics.

Take on your seatbeld and stay put - BMW Group is on the move again. Pure driving pleasure in MINI packages - several hundred MINIs will be travelling from Oxford, UK, to the BMW plant in Munich to get turned into an all electric version of their former self.

Fully stuffed with emissiofree power they then will undergo test runs and gradual improvement in the next 12 to 18 months . First results of these tests will be published at the end of the year.

It's just a first step, as Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, puts it or let's say literally a MINI step but the blogosphere like autobloggreen expects it to be just the beginning of the electrical history by BMW Group.

Video: Mikhail Gorbachev and Green Cross International

Date: June 24, 2008

Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of the Soviet-Union, always was ahead of his time: on the political level as much as on the environmental frontier.

As early as 1989 he “brought up the idea of an organization that would apply the medical emergency response model of the International Committee of the Red Cross to ecological issues and environmental problems that transcend national boundaries” – the Green Cross International was officially launchend in 1993. Time (and all the problems and global security issues caused by climate change) has proven his foresight right, making the Green Cross International one of the most relevant organizations in this field nowadays and Gorbachev one of the most influential pioneers.

Exclusively for Club of Pioneers he gave us his view on Green Cross International in a nutshell.

Even though the Environment is one of THE political issues nowadays it's not as new as most of the eco-movement straggler want to sell us.

As one of the first politicians, in Europe and the World, Hans-Dietrich Gentscher has paved the way for an environmental awarness. Therefore he's a real pioneer.

On the occasion of the Stecher-Stammtisch Club of Pioneers met Hans-Dietrich Genscher, former German foreign minister and first minister for the environment, to talk about the future of hydrogen technology, its economical impact and the historical political development towards an eco-aware government in Germany.
