Geothermal Power, the insider tip
On the subject of future energy sources, geothermal power is currently the insider tip. Power plants that generate geothermal energy drive drill heads several thousand meters in the earth’s crust until they reach a layer with hot steam. The geothermal energy derived there can be used in manifold ways – for heating houses, driving turbines and generating electricity.
Presently in Unterhaching near Munich, Germany is working on a major geothermal project. It is intended that a new power plant will supply warm water for up to 4000 houses, as well as generate up to 3.4 megawatt of electricity by means of geothermal heat. The great benefit of geothermal energy in comparison to solar and wind power is its independence from any kind of weather.
Companies such as Green Energy www.green-energy.de believe that geothermal power has the potential of covering a major part of worldwide energy demands. This company has set the goal of building Baden Württemberg’s first geothermal power plant in the Upper Rhine Graben near the city of Karlsruhe. Foto: Website green-energy
